News: SHOCKING....Nana Addo Goes On Dismissal Spree, Sacks About 6 Appointees

Call it the day of reckoning or dismissal day and you will not be far from it.

On a day when the attention of most Ghanaians appeared solely focused on the premiere of ace investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas' latest expose dubbed "Number 12: When Misconduct And Greed Become The Norm”, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo went on a dismissal blitzkrieg with the shocking firing of at least five appointees at the helm of state institutions.

First was the announcement of the sacking of Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA) CEO, Gifty Klenam, the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) CEO, Paul Asare Ansah and the Managing Director of the Bulk Oil Storage and Transport (BOST) Company, Alfred Obeng Boateng.

A former Member of Parliament (MP) for Lower West Akyem, Madam Klenam was sacked along with her two deputies.

A few hours after the news went viral, Peacefmonline intel picked reports that the CEO of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Dr Felix Anyah was also to be axed. Withing minutes, that news turned out to be true.

Sources say Dr. Anyaa was not approved by the Public Services Commission after he appeared for his interview for the job; a report Peacefmonline is yet to ascertain.

Meanwhile, unconfirmed reports say a number of other high-ranking state officials will soon be kicked out of office between now and July. This radical reorganisation is believed to be part of efforts by the President to rid government agencies of what seems to be a cycle of boardroom wrangling between chief executives of state agencies and their boards.

News: Ken Agyapong says Alfred Obeng contributed GHc700,000 to Akufo-Addo's campaign

- Kennedy Agyapong has revealed that the BOST MD, Alfred Obeng, contributed GHC700,000 to Akufo-Addo's 2016 election campaign

- He said in a radio interview that the NPP members criticising Obeng were ignorant of his contribution to the party

- Obeng has been accused of selling five million litres of contaminated fuel to two unlicensed companies

Kennedy Agyapong, the member of parliament for Assin Central, has reiterated his opposition to the removal of Alfred Obeng as the managing director of BOST.

Speaking on "Badwam" on Adom TV on Tuesday, Agyapong said Obeng had committed no crime and that many members of the party who wanted him out were ignorant of his contribution to the party. Agyapong said Obeng contributed GHc700,000 to the 2016 campaign of then candidate Nana Akufo-Addo. He said Obeng was introduced to him by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) national youth organiser, Sammy Awuku.

According to Agyapong, Obeng initially offered to contribute one million cedis to the campaign, but was told to hold on. He said Obeng first gave him GHc200,000 and later added GHc500,000 in October 2016. "As soon as I received the money, I called Ken Ofori-Atta who was in charge of the mobilisation of funds to inform him... Today, he [Obeng] is the boss at BOST and people are complaining... They are criticizing the guy without knowing his contribution,” he said.

Obeng has been accused of selling five million litres of contaminated fuel to two unlicensed companies. But a BNI investigation into his conduct absolved him of blame.

Nigerians Mocked Over 'Beautiful Jersey' Following 2-1 Loss To England

Nigerian fans are coming to terms with a loss to England in a friendly game at the Wembley on Saturday, just a day after their ‘beautiful’ jersey was the hottest sports story in the world.

First-half goals from Gary Cahill and captain Harry Kane helped England to victory, and Nigerians on social media shared their frustrations with the team that will be taking on on Lionel Messi’s Argentina, Croatia and Iceland at the World Cup.

The Super Eagles pulled a goal back shortly after the break through Alex Iwobi but only fleetingly threatened the hosts for much of the game.

The Super Eagles will hope to improve in the last warm up game against Czech Republic on June 6, while England are due to finish their preparations for the World Cup with a friendly against Costa Rica in Leeds on June 7.

Tunisia, Egypt register draws in World Cup warm up games

Meanwhile, England’s opening World Cup opponents Tunisia continued their preparations for Russia 2018 on Friday, with a draw against Turkey.

It was Tunisia’s second 2-2 draw this week, after they came back from 2-0 down against Portugal on Monday.

Egypt, who are playing without their injured star, Mohamed Salah could only manage a goalless draw against Colombia. The Pharaohs play their final warm-up match in Belgium on Wednesday before opening their World Cup campaign against Uruguay on 15 June.

Produce Any Evidence You Have On Anas If . . . - Pratt Dares Ken Agyapong

Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr. has challenged the Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong to produce any tape or evidence he has on ace investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas instead of his constant ranting on the airwaves.

Speaking on Peace FM's 'kokrokoo' programme Friday, Kwesi Pratt asked the Assin Central MP to stop the personal attacks and focus on the professional works of the ace investigative journalist.

He said the MP can not substantiate his claims on the journalist if Anas takes him to court to battle the personal allegations.

"Nothing prevents any Ghanian from doing the work Anas is doing . . . anybody at all can do same . . . why can't Ken Agyapong do the same thing about him (Anas)?"
 he asked.

Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong had alleged that Anas and the late NPP Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North, Joseph Boakye Danquah-Adu's wife, Ivy Heward Mills are in an amorous relationship.

The honorable MP, in his desperate attempt to frustrate the ace investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas and his Tiger Eye PI team from premiering their latest expose, dubbed, “Number 12” has made a lot of allegations.

Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has also sworn to show a video of investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas receiving bribe.

The MP vowed he has in his possession a tape capturing the investigative journalist taking a bribe of $100,000 from people.

Speaking on Accra based Okay FM, he dared God to strike him dead should he fail to show such video to Ghanaians, describing Anas as a "blackmailer".

“I will show Anas confessing to a state Attorney that he has taken $100,000 bribe, if I don’t show may the living God kill me.

“Anas is so corrupt and we will not allow him to destroy the state with his evil mind. Let Anas premiere his (investigative video on the June 6), I will also premiere my video titled 'who watches the watchman'. He should be ready,” he stated.

Kennedy Agyapong has also accused Anas of plundering properties through illegal means to enrich himself.

All the evidence, he insists, will be made blare to public eye.

“I’m very sad and hurt that Ghanaians believe this evil man so much. I will expose him (Anas) and he will regret being a Ghanaian and a corrupt man. You take bribes from people and then you turn around to accuse people,” he added.

Commenting on the claims by Kennedy Agyapong regarding the undercover journalist, seasoned journalist Kwesi Pratt has challenged Mr. Agyapong to provide the said evidence.

According to him, if the MP indeed has a smoking gun on the activities of Anas, he shouldn't just be talking but prove it to the whole world.

“He should produce the evidence if he has it . . . after watching it the law will be applied,” he told Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM's 'kokrokoo' programme.

Ghana Cards To Cost $293 Million, Not $1.2 Billion – NIA

The National Identification Authority (NIA), led by Executive Secretary Prof Ken Attafuah, has clarified that the total cost of producing the Ghana Cards is $293 million, not $1.2 billion, as widely reported.

In a statement released by NIA’s Corporate Affairs Department, the Authority said: “The NIS project to deliver ID cards to all Ghanaians is over a period of one year. Within this period, the state is committed to $124m while the project partner is committed to $169m.

“The total project cost for the delivery of the Ghana cards is, therefore, $293m and not 1.2bn USD. This total is expected to cover the technical and operational cost that will deliver ID Cards to all Ghanaians over the one year period”, the statement, which is produced in full below stated.

National Identification Authority

NIA Reponses to Frequently Asked Questions on the Cost of the NIS Project

30th May, 2018

1. Why 1.2bn USD?

Answer

The NIS project to deliver ID cards to all Ghanaians is over a period of one year. Within this period, the state is committed to $124m while the project partner is committed to $169m. The total project cost for the delivery of the Ghana cards is therefore $293m and not 1.2bn USD. This total is expected to cover the technical and operational cost that will deliver ID Cards to all Ghanaians over the one year period.

When the card has been delivered and become fully functional, part of the revenues that NIA will be raking in by virtue of the daily use of the card, will be used to manage NIA’s operational cost and pay off the investments that the partners would make over a period of 15years. This is projected to be 1.2bn USD over the life-cycle of the project.

2. Who is paying?

Answer

The NIS project cost (one year within which cards will be delivered to all Ghanaians) will be borne by government and the partner.

3. How are we paying?

Answer

Government pays its part of $124m (the only cost the state will incur) through the consolidated fund as provided for in the 2017 budget. The partner pays off its part through a combination of loans and equity.

$1.2b for Ghana card is 'fraud'; give me only $50m and I’ll deliver it - Ken Agyapong

N. issuance———596,000

E.Replacement—-566,200

Total Issued——1,412,520

5. What Procurement methods were used?

Answer

A Public Private Partnership arrangement that comes with the requirements of Built, Maintain, Operate and Transfer. The contract terms and pricing are consistent with the Foreigner Identity Management System (FIMS) Pilot Project agreement executed between NIA and IMS in 2012, and the Feasibility Study Report for the present expanded project, which received two approvals by the Public Private Partnership Agreement Committee (PPPC) of Ministry of Finance in 2014 prior to the 2018 Final Approval.

These costs have undergone Value-For-Money (VFM) audits by the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) and have also been thoroughly assessed by the Public Investments Division of the Ministry of Finance. The contract has also been reviewed by the Attorney-General?s Department and the Legal Unit of the Ministry of Finance, as well as the Economic Management Team of Government. It has also received Cabinet approval. Copies of the Contract were distributed to all 275 members of Parliament, and appropriate waivers for import duty exemptions were also granted by Parliament.

6. What kind of cards? Answer

Two types of cards will be issued:

2D Barcodes

This type of cards will be issued to children under 15 years. Reasons; Children within this age bracket will often not carry out transactions requiring the use of smart cards. It will not make economic sense to issue smart cards to children within this bracket.

The Authority currently has in stock 12 million 2D Barcodes. In order that this stock is not wasted, which will amount to financial loss to the State, together with all the reasons for a 2D Barcode the Authority deemed prudent to issue 2D Barcode to citizens within bracket. Smart card.

All citizens 15 and above will be issued smart ID cards. Features of the smartcard include:

Meet all international quality standards of a smart card (International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), and International Organization for Standardization (ISO)) Has a 148kilobites space with 14applets that can host ID information or data for other state agencies (DVLA, SSNIT, NHIA, etc.)

Can be used in contact and contactless mode.

An e-Passport profile and application on the card that allow immediate travel across the ECOWAS sub-region without the need for a paper passport.

A Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) that protects our data and the ecosystem from unauthorised access

7. How interoperable will the cards be?

Answer

The NIA has a standing MOU with the Telecos, and they have agreed to integrate aspects of the NIA database relevant to them into their systems. The NIA database will be required for ID purposes in order to eliminate fraud on the interoperability platform.

Released by Corporate Affairs Department, National Identification Authority.

As Trump summit nears, Kim Jong Un meets Russia's Lavrov

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un met Thursday with Russia's foreign minister, who was in Pyongyang on a visit that Moscow hopes will reassert its role as a force to be reckoned with ahead of Kim's expected summit with U.S. President Donald Trump in Singapore next month.
Moscow has remained largely on the sidelines as Kim has made a major diplomatic outreach to Seoul, Beijing and Washington over the past several months. But Sergey Lavrov's visit suggests Russia wants to make sure it is informed of North Korea's intentions and is mindful of Moscow's concerns.
Lavrov relayed President Vladimir Putin's "warmest regards and best wishes" for Kim's "big endeavors" on the Korean Peninsula. He also expressed Moscow's support for an agreement Kim reached with South Korean President Moon Jae-in at a summit last month that focused on measures to ease hostilities and increase exchanges between the two Koreas.
Video of the beginning of their meeting showed Lavrov inviting Kim to Moscow and complimenting the North Korean leader on the many new projects that have brightened up the capital.
According to Russian media, he also discussed ways to expand relations during a meeting with Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho.
"We welcome the contacts that have been developing in the recent months between North and South Korea, between North Korea and the United States," Lavrov said in comments to the media. "We welcome the summits that already took place between Pyongyang and Seoul as well as planned meetings between North Korean and U.S. leadership."
He vowed Russia's support for denuclearization and a broader effort to create a stable and long-lasting peace in the region, but indicated that Moscow believes sanctions can be eased while the process is in progress, which diverges from the U.S. position that denuclearization must come first.
"It's absolutely obvious that when a conversation starts about solving the nuclear problem and other problems of the Korean Peninsula, we proceed from the fact that the decision can't be complete while sanctions are still in place," he said.
Despite having a border with North Korea and relatively cordial relations that Putin has seemed to want to develop further, Russia has kept a surprisingly low profile as Kim has emerged onto the world stage this year, meeting twice with Chinese President Xi Jinping and South Korea's Moon.
As Lavrov was visiting Pyongyang, one of Kim's top lieutenants, former intelligence chief Kim Yong Chol, was in New York to discuss with U.S. officials the agenda for the Trump summit.
